Development Model

Evolution Goaltending Corp. (EGC) has crafted a holistic, year-round development model for goaltenders, aimed at nurturing athletes from fundamental technical skills to nuanced game-play tactics. The development model is partitioned into three core programs: In-Season Development (ISD), Off-Season Development (OSD), and Pre-Season Development (PSD), each designed to complement one another in an athlete’s journey to goaltending excellence.

The Three Pillars of Development

  1. Skill Acquisition - Off-Season Development (OSD)

    • This 12-week program, running from April to June, aims at skill acquisition through intensive, repetitive training.

      • This program maintains a 2:1 goalie-to-instructor ratio and offers online seminars for theoretical understanding.

      • Incorporates a unique blend of pre-ice analytics, technical ice-time, and online classrooms, coupled with physical journals and video clips for extended learning.

  2. Skill Application - Pre-Season Development (PSD)

    • Taking place in July & August, the program focuses on skill application in complex, multi-dimensional game scenarios.

      • Employs a multi-layered approach to ensure a solid foundation before progressing to more advanced game scenarios.

      • Offers online seminars and movement circuits, creating a holistic development experience.

  3. Skill Adaptation - In-Season Development (ISD):

    • Conducted from October to March, the program focuses on skill adaptation. It helps goalies integrate previously acquired skills into the ongoing hockey season.

      • The training includes both on-ice and off-ice mentorship, with sessions scheduled before school hours to accommodate student-athletes.

      • Has a low 2:1 goalie-to-instructor ratio and the uses video analytics and reflection journals for continuous self-assessment.

Key Features Across Programs

  1. Low Instructor-to-Goaltender Ratio:
Each program boasts a 2:1 goalie-to-instructor ratio, allowing for personalized attention to each athlete.

  2. Integrated Training Curriculum:
Both on-ice and off-ice development strategies are aligned to offer a seamless transition between different training phases.

  3. Resource Availability:
A Google Drive is available to all participants for extended learning, containing video footage, resources, and session materials. Physical journals are provided for self-reflection.

  4. Community and Camaraderie:
Weekly video calls and web-delivered seminars encourage community building and offer an avenue for query resolution.

  5. Flexible Locations and Scheduling:
EGC's programs are conveniently located and scheduled to accommodate student-athletes’ schooling commitments.

Holistic Development Approach

The overarching philosophy behind EGC’s development model is the seamless integration of skills from one phase to another. This progressive model ensures that goaltenders are not just accumulating skills but are learning how to adapt, apply, and incorporate these skills into their play at each level of the game.

Evolution Goaltending's comprehensive development model provides goaltenders with a structured yet flexible roadmap, building not just skills but also character, mental toughness, and community spirit. This makes it a unique academy where athletes don't just become better goaltenders; they evolve into well-rounded individuals ready to face challenges both on and off the ice.
